The Commissioner of the Bulgarian Participation Dr. Nadezhda Dzhakova - a guide to director Georgi Toshev through the project "Neighbours"

The documentary film "Hidden Marks" by director Georgi Toshev and cinematographer Boris Pintev has been selected by the international jury for participation in the Master of Art festival. In 28 minutes, the film tells the story of the most successful Bulgarian participation to date at the Venice Biennale of Arts. (For those who love statistics, the number of people who have viewed the project "Neighbours" is nearly 60 thousand, and the publications on the topic - over 500 in Bulgarian publications and 44 in foreign ones, including the newspapers Guardian, Observer, Financial Times and "Galleries" magazine.

The commissioner of the Bulgarian participation, Dr. Nadezhda Dzhakova, guides the director Georgi Toshev through the history of the project, its birth, concept, implementation, its showing in Venice and the international response.

The team that created "Neighbours" - artists Lilia Topuzova, Krasimira Butseva and Julian Shekhiryan, with curator Vasil Vladimirov share the path they took to researching the pain of the traumas of communism and weaving the idea of ​​foreigners in their own country into the general theme of this year's Biennale "Foreigners Everywhere".

Boris Pintev's camera immerses viewers in the romantic setting of Venice and in the history-filled hall of the Don Orione Cultural Center, a former monastery and orphanage from the 15th century, where the project "Neighbours" was presented.

Georgi Toshev, who was once again included in the list of the most influential Bulgarian celebrities by Forbes magazine a few days ago, adds to the cinematic narration interviews with visitors to the Bulgarian pavilion and reports from the children's studios - for the first time our participation in the Biennale has an accompanying educational program of lectures at the Ca Foscari University with Prof. Iliana Krupova and classes with students from Venetian schools with Teodora Baharova.

The film "Hidden Marks" will be presented to the Sofia audience on February 21 at 7 p.m. in the Lumiere Hall as part of the Master of Art festival. The international jury, composed of: Katharina Jeschke, Andrey Kulev, Georges Gascho, Maria Averina and Naio Titsin, has decided that the film about the Bulgarian participation in the Biennale of Arts should be shown on the same date at the Festival and Congress Center in Varna, but at 8 p.m.
